How to Become Self-Aware: 4 Helpful Tips

Having self-awareness can be a great tool to discover who you are. Cultivating self-awareness can be a great asset for yourself and others around you. Below are 4 helpful tips to start your journey in becoming more self-aware of the person you currently are and striving to be.

1 – Keep a journal: This is a great tool for developing self-awareness. Keeping a journal is a great way to keep track of personal progress and whatever comes to mind during your day. Additionally, a journal provides the space for reflection and brings awareness to your progression or regression as well. Being able to keep track of your personal writing logs allows for self-awareness to grow and develop throughout the years.

2 – Ask a trusted friend to describe you: When asking someone you trust to describe you, it can potentially give you a new perspective on your personality and behavior traits. Listening to what they have to say might develop your self-awareness further and how you present yourself to others. This might also lead you to thoughts about changing or staying the same.

3 – Create personal goals: Creating personal goals can help you strive to accomplish the things that are most important to you. Creating a list of goals can assist you with keeping track of your goals and reflecting on your aspirations. Reaching or not reaching the goals that you set for yourself can create an awareness of what you need to improve on or what worked for you. Setting goals can be a great way to start building self-awareness.

4 – Write down how you would describe yourself subjectively and objectively: This writing activity is another great way to develop self-awareness through personal reflections. Thinking about who you are and who you want to be is a great place to start bringing in self-awareness. This activity can help put words to your behaviors and actions as well in order to hold yourself accountable in the future.
