Mental Health Tips for the Month of May
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness month and we are so excited to provide you with 5 helpful tips to take care of your mental health during this season!
1 – Talk about your feelings: Talking about your feelings can be a great way to release built up emotions and can help you process them as well. Talking things out can help put feelings into words and give you a new perspective. Here at Simply Thrive, we have licensed therapists to assist you in talking about your feelings and provide you with a safe space to do so. Talking about your feelings can be challenging at times and the therapists here at Simply Thrive understand that. We are here when you are ready to take that first step into therapy.
2 – Ask for help: Acknowledging you want help and asking for it can be a big step for some people. Asking for help is very important and it takes a lot of courage. Seeking help is a great way to take care of your mental health. Seeking help can look like talking to a loved one, close friend or anyone from your personal support system. Additionally, seeking help from a licensed therapist can help provide you with the appropriate coping skills to take care of your mental health as well.
3 – Keep active and eat well: Staying active and eating well can reduce stress and help you live a healthier lifestyle. By incorporating exercise into your daily routine it can help release built up energy and/or anxious feelings. Eating healthier can help with overall brain function and mood. Eating a balanced diet has many other benefits as well with one being improving brain functions and development. Incorporating an exercise routine into your schedule and eating a balanced diet plays an important part in taking care of your mental health.
4 – Take time for yourself: Allowing yourself to rest and take time for yourself is a great way to take care of your mental health. Setting aside time for yourself and doing the things you love is a great way to recharge your batteries, so to say. This gives you the opportunity to check in with yourself and do something that makes you happy. Setting aside time for yourself and your hobbies daily can be a beneficial way to take care of yourself and mental wellbeing. Even just putting aside 15-30 minutes a day to do something you love can make a big difference.
5 – Set achievable goals: Setting goals for yourself is a way to keep yourself focused during the day. Having a to-do list can help keep you motivated and on task. This is another way to organize your thoughts and take care of your mental health. By setting goals it gives you something to look forward to and helps you to prioritize the things that are most important throughout the day. Setting goals can help avoid losing purpose in your daily routines and it feels so good to accomplish your goals.
