The Spring Season is a Time of Change: How to Accept Change in Your Life

Resisting change can be painful at times, especially when you have been holding on to things that no longer serve you. Change can be difficult, however, there are ways to manage your thoughts and feelings when change occurs in your life. Here are some helpful tips to assist you in navigating change as it comes and goes throughout your journey:

1 Talk about it: Talking about change in your life can help explore your thoughts about it. Additionally, discussing change can bring up feelings and emotions that haven’t been explored before.Talking it out can help release built up feelings and emotions. When these feelings and emotions are brought out it can sometimes feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. Talking things out can be very therapeutic for some.

2 Acknowledge that things are changing: Acknowledging that change is happening in your life can be one of the first steps to accepting change. Acknowledging change can be difficult for some but it is the starting point to moving forward. Once you acknowledge that things are changing around you, the transition into your next phase of life will likely be easier.

3 Create a support system: Having a strong support system can help during times of change in your life. Having a support system provides you with people who care for your well-being and want to help you in times of need. When changes occur and you are not sure who to turn to for advice or comfort, your support system will be there. Having people you can trust and that know you can make life changes or transitions a little easier.

4 Reflective journal: Sometimes writing down your thoughts and feelings about the change in your life can be helpful. Writing and keeping a journal can help express yourself and take thoughts from your head to the paper. Keeping a reflective journal can also show you your progress or regressions throughout the change in your life as you re-read it. This can provide reflection on your journey of change in ways that can assist you in the future. Such as what helped and what didn’t.

5 Give yourself time: Allowing yourself to slow down and move forward with grace can be very helpful when things are changing around you. Some suggestions to help you slow down are meditation, walks in nature, reading a book, yoga and anything that you find helpful to slow down and give yourself time to process change. Allowing yourself some time to process change can ease your mind and gather your thoughts to transition into the change.
