Transgender Awareness Week

Transgender Awareness Week

Each year between November 13th-19th, many individuals participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise visibility about transgender individuals and to address many of the issues that members of community face. November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance which is an annual observance that honors the memory of transgender individuals who lost their lives in acts of anti-transgender violence. According to a recent Forbes article, 375 Transgender individuals have been murdered so far this year which makes this the deadliest year of records that have been recorded. This article also mentions that most of the victims were Black and migrants trans women of color and trans sex workers.

An article from the Washington Post reports that since the pandemic there has been a 40 percent increase in in the number of crisis calls that come through the Trans Lifeline. There has been an increase in reported anxiety and depression across the country, and an elevated risk for mental crisis as well.
