I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree from UNC Chapel Hill. My passion is working with parents and young children (birth to five) to help them to navigate the challenges of raising a healthy, secure child. I am especially in tune with busy parents who are trying to juggle everything, often without local family support. Our hectic lifestyles and work/home balance can impact how we interact with our kids. Since children express their fears and emotions through behavior, parents need tools to use in order to address these issues and enhance the parent/child bond. I can offer parents education and suggestions on how to work with their child, making for a happier and more peaceful household. Children learn through play, and some of their ongoing issues can be addressed using play therapy techniques. Parents can learn these techniques too, and spend pleasurable time together with their child while helping them cope with their feelings.
I am trained in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and worked for several years in Early Intervention as an in-home Child Development Specialist. I have helped families struggling with potty training, defiance, sleeping and sibling rivalry. I have been a member of the Wake Young Child Mental Health Collaborative for 13 years, and offer individual treatment as well as psycho-educational groups for parents.
